barcelona update
hey kids.
just checking in on this blog with some updates from the mediterranean.....
the weather here is getting nicer as the days go by. last week was quite overcast for the most part and even raining quite a bit. i had my clothes on the line for i think 5 days straight, because they never actually dried. and then had to rewash them. not cold enough here to have to wear gloves even. we've been trying to organize a ski trip so i can try snow boarding. there are cheap packages that you can do for the day....take a train a couple of hours outside the city and then ski rental and lift for 50 euros or so. so maybe next week selda and i will do that if nothing works out to stay in a place for the weekend.
the other day, i did my first official translation!!!! my friend michael gave this guy my contact info to translate for a scientific journal. wheat grains and experiments and discriminate equations. crazy stuff. but not too hard surprisingly. 30 euros for less than an hour of work. hopefully there will be more and on a more regular basis.
since i have been back i have been to 4 castings. i think i can rule 2 of them out because it has been more than 5 days. (one of them was for ING Banking England) the other one i did for portugal "optimax". that would be to spend a day there in portugal filming. the other one is the most interesting one i have had to date. both monetarily (if that word exists) and travel. it's for www.oxy.com an oil company. and if chosen, it would be 5 or 6 days in northern algeria, i.e., the sahara desert. i'll find out about that one this week. so keep your fingers crossed.
apart from that i am getting my resume out for translating. and even looking for a part-time job in the mean time. i'll have to do some more networking......
went out for dinner with the old WATX crew. we finally got all of us together and had a great time. they even paid for my dinner.
my cables and cords and shirt arrived, thanks mom and dad. i couldnt redirect the laptop sleeve in time. i am a bit annoyed with my ipod, seeing as how it is already pretty scratched up. i have been using the sleeve provided, but it looks like i have had it for quite a bit longer. i called them yesterday and, very politely, asked what the solution was. i cant send it in because its overseas. they cant/wont replace it either as it is cosmetic damage. (i dont want it replaced, i just wanna know where they get off selling a product so expensive that in actuality is cheap.) so the tech guys directed me to a website called iklear, www.iklear.com that can eliminate scratches and clean the screen. so, after you pay them hundreds, buying the accessories, the ipod, the software, etc.,.....you have to spend more? no. so i offered a soultion of them comping me the quantity that i will have to spend on the spray. an apple gift certificate. i think that is very fair. they said they wouldnt do it. so iam going to write them. if someone can help me find the best email address (brent-you have friends there, and david, you know everything) that would be great. just that customer service thing-they are making millions......i'm even an iSnob, i told them that (we're gonna make shirts with that on it, btw, in the same font as all the "i" stuff)
check out http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=14549 for a virtual shop of some photos of mine. cool site for people making things. really fun to browse around. supposedly works if you type http://secretbarrythings.etsy.com
selda and i are doing great. she's a wonderful girl.
so, that's the view from here.........hope you guys are doing well.....
